Doubling Throughput at Regional 3PL
Third-party logistics provider (Madison area)
Challenge
The 3PL was losing clients due to slow order fulfillment and couldn't handle holiday volume. Manual picking and outdated racking were bottlenecks. They needed to double daily ship volume without doubling labor.
Solution
Bernie's designed a new pick module with carton flow, reconfigured pallet rack for better cube utilization, added Hytrol conveyor to shipping, and implemented Crown pallet trucks and reach trucks. We also added stretch wrappers at the dock.
Result
Daily ship volume increased from 800 to 1,600 orders. Pick time per order dropped 35%. The facility retained key clients and won two new e-commerce contracts. Payback in 28 months.
